THE LAST SCENE...
Hi, dear readers, HouseDetectives is here again!
Probably that is not the typical article we use to write and you use to expect from us. Maybe it is only a reflection about the character, but as we explained to you in our first article, being a detective is a job about investigation, studies and analysis too. We see the events, we study the events, we give you our personal point of view and YOU take the part you want. As always we want you to be part of this crazy project we started months ago. So, please, comment after reading and share it with your friends. We want to know what you think, we love always your opinions, we write our articles for you, for this fantastic fandom which was created around, in our opinion, the best series of the actual history of television. So, in advance, thank you very much, because if you wouldn´t exist, if you wouldn´t be there, we wouldn´t had never started this project.
If you want, if you have time, if you like squeezing your brain as the typical House´s style, please you can read again some of our previous articles: Happiness, pain, guilt and punishment, Big Event in the House, Why add an new character to House? Brother Mycroft, Is it all in House´s head? and House´s Final Puzzle.
Before to start with the real issue that bring us today here, I want you to know that I am literally in tears while writting this "maybe" our last puzzle. I feel my heart "shrunk". When I came this morning to the blog and I see our countdown, I feel as a real friend will be gone in less than I will be ready to say goodbye to him. Last week, things of "real" job made my "real" life a bit hard. But when at nights I arrived home and checked on twitter to see what brought that day in House´s land, I felt better. Maybe it is only an illusion but it helped me, and I know this shared "hobby" that have all who are reading this article is something we never forget. So, please, enjoy those two last episodes!
And now, I want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH, to a special person, who always help us in this mission of HouseDetectives. Last week we had her as our reporter. Now you can find her as TheHouseMDProject, before as HouseDailyDose. Do you know what? when this series reaches its end inevitably, we will still have a page where we can remember the greatness that House supposed to our lives here: [H]ouseMD So, go there, check it and share your own feelings with the rest of the fandom.
In HouseDetectives we never think coincidences exist, but, who knows. Two images really similar, two circunstances really similar, and House wearing the same clothes. Is Wilson the one who is sick?
We know the last POTW will be a drug patient and House will be forced to examine his own life and confront his personal demons. Maybe he only will see a mirror of himself in the patient. But if HE is the real POTW it could be the time in which will be a before and after in House´s mental state.
Well, ok, all of this is just too boring, we talked a lot in the past about it, so now, we are going further in this. Since when do we belive is House in that sick mental state? Well, it may sounds presumptuous and no substantied, but it is something that is drilling into my mind for some time ago...
We always hear about House being like a child. Yes, his behavior is often like the one of a little guy, and usually he is compared with a child. The thing is last year we listen lot of times the comparision with a ten years old boy and this year with an eleven years old. Maybe it is something, but metaphorically it is possible to think about this number as the clue here, why not?
- SCENARIO 2. THE WAITING ROOM.
In this episode we know Kutner will appear, oh, wait, if Kutner is dead, it could only be as an hallucination (that could be work with our Scenario 1) or maybe at one of those who just left the waiting room and crossed over, why not? It is possible he is in the other side of the door and help Wilson to cross the line.
We also know 13 is comming back and she and Foreman will act as meddler between House and Wilson. The previews of the episode make us understand that Wilson doesn´t want to keep treating himself for the cancer, he wants to live as well as possible til the inevitable final. We remember when House promised to 13 that when the time will come he will help to die. 13 is sick, Wilson is sick. House needs to understand it and respect what his friend want for his latest months of life. Again the WAITING ROOM here. Everybody has the right to decide about their finale here.
- SCENARIO 3. HOUSE WILL FAKE HIS DEATH.
We already talked about this possibility in our article "House´s Final Puzzle". We seriously believe it as a real one. Based on Sherlock Holmes, we think House could make this decision and start a new life wherever he want.
EVERYBODY HURTS
(Sometimes...)
When your day is long and the night. The night is yours alone.
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go Everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on
Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no
Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
If you're on your own in this life. The days and nights are long
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes. Everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes. And everybody hurts sometimes
So, hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. (Hold on, hold on)
Everybody hurts. You are not alone.
We
wrote our last article before the beginning of the called "House´s
arc": The
case of the Red Herrings.
Lots of things we learned after that. Now we are at the end of the
journey, the case is now solved. But, what do we really know about
it? Lately actors, writers and the creator himself, are talking about
the end as something we really don´t expect, but something we will
be happy with. For
us in HouseDetectives there are still many questions to be answer but
only two episodes for it.
“IT
WAS NEVER ABOUT THE MEDICAL MISTERY TO ME – IT WAS ABOUT THE
CHARACTER” David Shore.
So it was the same
for us. House never was a medical series. Since those two minutes at
the end of "Body
and Soul",
the series took an unexpected way for some, not for all in the
fandom, of course, it was something that could be happen in House´s
life that his "only" real friend, maybe, the only person he
can trust now, disappear and he (House) would have to "rethink"
his entire life. In HouseDetectives, we have the feeling that since
that moment many of the images we are seeing in the episodes or in
spoiler are related with moments we just saw in this series, but now
from another point of view or with another result.
- SCENARIO 1. IS IT ALL IN HOUSE´S HEAD?
Ok, we know it. It is the same question we ask ourselves over and over again since the first time we learned House could have hallucinations. But we can´t help it, we need to go back there again. But, what could be the reason? Coma, schizophrenia, drugs...
AN ONCOLOGIST WITH CANCER. OF ALL THE THINGS THAT COULD BE KILLING ME...IT IS LIKE THE UNIVERSE IS GIVING ME THE BIG MIDDLE FINGER.
SO THE WAY I FELT, YOU FEEL THAT, WHAT, MOST OF THE TIME? IT REALLY DOES SUCK BEING YOU, DOESN´T IT?
The medical case in each one of the episodes show parallelisms between House and the POTW til the point to see in that patient House himself. We even could affirm House always is the real POTW. So, probably House could suffer a mental illness, may be temporary or not, we don´t know. We just studied in depth that scenario time ago: Is it all in House´s head?. Now things have evolved but the idea is still alive in our minds. So, if House is now simply hallucinating Wilson´s cancer? Or...if Wilson only exist in House´s head? Oh, in our first theory House had an injured brain. He believes he is Sherlock and Sherlock has a partner. If the partner of Sherlock is Watson, the partner of House must be Wilson. As always, dear readers, that is not something we believe, that is something we reach after searching for clues and trying to solve our own puzzles.
Is that the time when House started working at PPTH?
We also know Wilson was working in PPTH because House called him when there was a free vacant as oncologist, and he accepted it because he knew his schizophrenic brother was in some place near Princeton. (The social contract)
House:
You told me you saw your brother once. After he disappeared.
Wilson:
13 years ago. I used to go to Princeton whenever I could. I must have
hit every homeless shelter in town. And then one day, I’m just
sitting at this deli, having a sandwich, I look out the window, and
there he is. He was gone by the time I got outside.
House:That's
why you were so eager when I told you there was a job at Princeton. I
thought it was just my charm.
House:
I think you were punishing yourself. I think you wanted to feel what
it would be like be homeless in a New Jersey winter. That tells me,
guilt. That tells me, something happened.
Wilson:
The schizophrenia started when he was a teenager. When he was in
college… He was on meds, but he'd still think a professor was out
to get him because he got a B, or he'd fight with his roommates
because he never showered.
House:
Where were you?
Wilson:Med
school. He, called me, every day. Talked for hours. I didn't have
hours.
House:
Interesting. Later for that. Go on.
Wilson:
I was tired of being the guy that everybody counted on, so one night,
Danny called — One night, Danny called, crying, upset about
something. I had to study for an exam. So I — I hung up… Took my
things. I went to the library so I wouldn't have to hear the phone
ring.
House:
I wonder how that turned out?
Wilson:
My mother called me the next day. Danny had run away and left his
meds behind. Which I knew meant that he would never be able to choose
to come back, because he'd be so detached from reality.
House:
So you made your one effort to live a normal, selfish life, and the
universe immediately smacked you down. And because we're wired to
find meaning in semi-random events, you decided never to be that
careless again.
Is it possible that House may be Wilson´s schizophrenic brother?
Is it possible that he thinks he is Sherlock and his brother is Watson?
Schizophrenia:
is a mental
disorder characterized by a breakdown of thought processes and by
poor emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests itself as
auditory
hallucinations, paranoid
or bizarre delusions,
or disorganized
speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social
or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs
in young adulthood, with a global lifetime prevalence
of about 0.3–0.7%. Diagnosis is based on observed behavior and the
patient's reported experiences.
QUITE ROOM
...but I prayed, now it´s all gone away,
no more voices, no more delusion, no more craziness,
no more confussion...
Could it be this twist viewers never expected but "fitting" it all?
This is something in our head from time ago, but more when we learned the title of that episode "Post Mortem". What does it happen if all of them are in a waiting room? For whatever they are waiting for. It could be link perfectly with the title of the finale "Everybody dies".
In "Recession Proof" we saw House totally devasted after losing a patient. He thought that his happiness made he a worse doctor and people would die because of that. We know that in this last episode House will have to rethink his entire life and it will be the beginning of his future. At this point we believe probably House will learn that all people die, it doesn´t matter if House is happy or not, people will die anyway.
Because "where we find the life, we find the death".
Maybe is House the one who is in this WAITING ROOM. Maybe he is the one who needs to cross the line. We know about at least four times that House was near to death, maybe he is a coma state (again this could work with the first scenario) and he needs a hand (Kutner) to pass throw it.
Again here, two scenes that reminds a similar moment. One from "After Hours", after House self surgery, the other from "Everybody Dies", penultimate episode of this series. It really seems they are waiting for something. Both images are from people worried about House, so What are waiting Foreman and Wilson there?
- SCENARIO 3. HOUSE WILL FAKE HIS DEATH.
We already talked about this possibility in our article "House´s Final Puzzle". We seriously believe it as a real one. Based on Sherlock Holmes, we think House could make this decision and start a new life wherever he want.
This pic reminds us "Help me", it is something inevitable not to think about that scene of House and Hanna under that collapsed building. Do you think is it possible there will be a new collapse? What if House now decide to not show again, to fake his own death and start again? We learned that House can´t leave the state, but if he is dead, he could do whatever he wanted. After "Help me" he was so near to the "hecatomb" but then Cuddy made her magical appearance and "saved" his life. But later in "Bombshells" this "hecatomb" made again his way to catch House and this time reached him. Maybe now is time to House for a "Second chance".
THE
LAST SCENE
We
really think the next one could be the last of scene of this
fantastic series. And ALL the scenarios we already brought here could
work with it.
-
Wilson finding his schizophrenic brother waiting at the door of his
house, after he left PPTH again.
-
Wilson finding his friend who was there waiting for supporting him in
his latest moths of life, ready for being with him.
-
Wilson finding House alive after thinking he was already dead,
discovering that was only a plan, discovering that House just faked
his death.

THE CASE OF THE RED HERRINGS
THE CASE OF THE RED
HERRINGS ... OR:
WE ALL HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS
WE ALL HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS
"It is a capital mistake to theorize before you have all the
evidence. It biases the judgment." ~ A Study in Scarlet
In recent days we have received a lot of information from journalists, writers and even the creator of the series: Olivia Wilde will be back for the final episode, Kal Penn (aka Kutner) may return, Lisa Edelstein will not return to the series, the title of the episode directed by Hugh Laurie and the called arc series finale (House's arc)...Lots of information, many emotions...
Series creator David Shore tells TVLine that a storyline will kick off in late April that will “build” to the show’s swan song. “The final four episodes are, to some extent, [part] of a piece,” he explains. “But the last one is very, very much a much separate culmination of those episodes".
So, we could say that Hugh´s episode will be
the beginning of the end...
"The C-word"
We know that many people feel that David Shore will not leave us with any hope at the end. We will not truly know this until it IS final and the finale is over. We guess that we are the "glass half full" type of people because there COULD be hope.
There are almost too many clues as of late and so it falls
upon us, dear readers, to try our best to discuss intelligently those that have
come our way. Let’s begin our discussion or “Great Game” with tweets and pictures from one of the writers on set Kath Lingenfelter, who usually is online and takes her time to talk nicely with fans, We also have other sources of information, such as Peter Blake, Alex Solether and our own secret sources (we ARE HouseDetectives you know).
The C-Word
The episode 19 is the beginning of the end, and its title as we have said, is the C-word, but are we sure that the name has something to do with the future development of the series? Perhaps the title has nothing to do with it, and be something else, so this may well turn out to be..... Red Herring #1
Of course, this brings [C]ANCER to everyone’s mind. We think
this is a little too pat and not near clever enough for these writers. It could
be the word “[C]HANGE” or “[C]OMMITENT” - the possibilities are almost endless. It could be even a succession of severals [C] So, we are going to one of our previous points: Is House in a [C]OMA? (where have we heard THIS before?) or under anesthesia or “[C]ROSSING OVER”? Will he encounter Kutner and possibly even Amber as well in the
"crossing over" stage?
Do they talk him out of “staying on the bus” or taking his own life? Will it be up to the audience to decide whether House gets off the bus or not? Open ending here.
Our plea to DS
includes modeling at least SOME of the ending on Holmes.
Holmes didn’t
die…neither did Watson.
Of
course, we fee that former cast members COULD BE assembled for a funeral. Another area we find too disturbing to focus on, other than to mention here fleetingly.
After spending months over a year ago [C]ONVINCED that this was all a dream, we’re not so anxious to relive recycled ideas. Is it possible House gives his life to save someone else? A bit more on this later.
Would it really be so terrible to let us imagine House leading a different life somewhere else?
Doing
something else? Why couldn't there be a scenario where House does
something [C]RIMINAL (like assisting in 13's euthanizing) and faces the
possibility now of LIFE IN PRISON. Of course, we know 13 is comming back for the series finale but WHAT if that episode is only going to tell HOW House arrives at his destination (flashback?).
Surely, this would be reason enough
to try and make him look for "ways out" of the situation. We're not
necessarily channeling BBC's Sherlock here but as we stated
above...Holmes comes back after The Reichenback Falls as all fans of the
Great Detective know. Why so hard to believe where House is [C]ONCERNED?
Surely, it would be infinitely easier for House to create a "faked death" than almost anyone else on earth.
Dr. Gregory House could do something SO NOBLE that it just might make a lasting legacy.
We know that he is tremendously courageous and we have no
trouble seeing a scenario where he might give up his life to save
someone else.
In fact, we’ve seen him place himself in situations where he was willing
to give up his life for someone else (Amber). When asked, he told Stacy
that of
course he would give up his leg to save her life if it was necessary.
Maybe this is the House
legacy.
Brilliant doctor, saved so many lives which most thought lost and
then gives up his own life to save someone else.
For those who see the glass half empty, it's possible that this is the scene that so many of us have dreaded for so long. A House
death has actually become "predictable" over the years. We have ALL
thought of his death so many times before and we have been shown the
possibility of this as a probable "eventuality" along the journey. A Wilson death
is quite a different story. While many or most have thought of this, it
is usually in the vein of "worst case scenario" and something which we
try our best to remove from our minds the moment it enters. This is NOT
an acceptable ending for us here at Housedetectives. A Wilson death is
one we could never conscience because this would leave House alone. We know how House feels about this.
Wilson: Call me a doormat, get it all out of your system, but I'm doing it.
House: Why?
Wilson: He's my friend.
House: I'm your friend. All the pain pills I've taken. What if I need your liver?
Wilson: Right. How selfish of me not to have considered your possible future needs.
House: They're all dying. They're all your friends.
Wilson: I'm not here for an argument, House.
House: No, right, that's room 12A. So why are you here? Want to make sure that I’ve called the moving van?
Wilson: No. The operation is in two hours, and I'd like you to be there with me.
House: No.
Wilson: What-- why?
House: Because if you die, I'm alone.
So here we have our Red Herring
#2 We will study some
hints from the filming of Episode 20, and we will try to link them to
other information that we already know (just happened or "yet to
happen")
Here we see a large moving van (left side of picture) on the set and there is filming proceeding at night time.
“In ten minutes, RSL's performance will tear out these people's hearts?
We can DEDUCE that possibly: Wilson is moving, moving on or crossing over? Is he ripping out our hearts because something horrible happens to House? Is the van there to move House equipment? Seems odd placement, but still a possibility. Do you think the van is even relevant to the scene or are these “House Movers” on set?
Again someone House really loves leaving him alone?
To see either House or Wilson without the other, is simply
too painful. What’s left for House if this happens? Of course, a child
of one or the other would change this scenario quite a bit. A little
part of them continuing on in the world. So here the Red Herring #3 Clues can change in an instant. For all we know, the concept of a
Wilson or House "son" somewhere may give some of us great comfort for
all kinds of reasons, but it might not be true. It is not a fact...as
yet. Most of what this article discusses are IDEAS and Speculation for
that is all we have now and there are many things which are NOT
impossible and so many possibilities for the truth ( a la Conan D'oyle's philosophy)
“When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
Does House or Wilson have a son and what’s that story about? This is one BIG RED HERRING, we fear. It seems like Wilson has the son but the scene from a promo of an upcoming episode, is “odd”, as it seems as though Wilson is asking a rhetorical question like… “I have an 11 year old son”?. Some have researched imdb and found the guest stars for the episode and say that there is a multi racial child who is listed as a guest. Is it possible that is only will be a joke from House to Wilson? Is it possible, as Barbara Barnett suggested that Wilson faked House´s DNA? Is it possible that House discovered that and only wanted to give Wilson that "fake" son? Yes, House fans will stop at nothing to get a lead.
But the [C]HILD rumour is not new, lots of people were talking about that possibility before the C-word was revealed. So here we have our Red Herring #4 The baby factor.
Is it possible there is a baby involved somewhere? Could this be
D’s baby? Could this be C's baby? If it were "D"s", would she not want to raise it? Might there be technicalities
preventing her from staying here? We could see a scenario where Wilson could
end up raising a House child.
Is it a Wilson child? After looking at some timelines, if Wilson has 11 year old son it could be Sam´s. Why she would give up her child is anybody's guess.Of course, anyone Wilson was with during the fixed time construct, could well be the mother. Not impossible. Do you remember when Lucas investigated Sam? If he discovered something? Had House read the papers? Did House know that Sam had a child from Wilson? Did he leave it pass but then he decided to fake thouse Sam´s analysis that provoken Wilson and Sam break up?
In
"The Confession", Wilson tells Foreman "if you ever hear me mention
anything about
wanting kids, please free to punch me in the liver." At the time Wilson
said
this he was pushing the "Taubettes" around the front desk. Wilson
referred to the "Taubettes" as Satan's alarm clock. So it does appear as
if Wilson didn't know at
the time he said that that he had a child. We hope this is something
House proves to be wrong if a Wilson child is "claimed".
While
checking to see if Dominika or Blythe are mentioned in the credits for this upcoming episode (they
aren't), we checked the guest actors' names and none of them are the boy playing
"Wilson's son". Still...IMBD S8 Episode 8X15 lists the only
child actor listed is Sayeed Shahidi, 8 years. His character's name is EVAN.
However, he does not look anything like the little boy in the promo. This child
looks bi-racial. Here's a link to his page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3162144/ But later:
SO they may be the ones regarding Wilson's son? We could see a Road Trip to find Wilson’s brother though.
That would be amazing. Of course,
an H baby, raised by Wilson would be amazing as well. Maybe a Wilson baby
raised by House? Either scenario signals a huge “[C]HANGE” with a capital “C” and
that rhymes with P and that stands for “poo”. See what we did there? Tied two things together.
Here’s what we'd LOVE to see:
A Road Trip with Serious H/W discussions. Almost exclusively
H/W centric episodes. A Journey to find themselves and discussion of several "hanging" plot lines, helping to make
sense out of it all. The writers should [C]ONFRONT (there’s a “C” word) the
issues we wanted resolution to and not shy away from them. After all…if not
now...when?
Focus on drama. Real drama which will show H/W for the human beings they are. Not the silly video game
playing guys but the “stuff they’re made of”. We had more than enough of the
silliness and that time has long since passed. Give us something meaningful,
something to make sense out of the challenges that life brought to them and how
they faced them. What have they learned? How have they grown?
After all that
Dr. House has meant to fans worldwide, we hope that he is shown to be
the courageous man we always knew he was. We want any House legacy to
be one which focuses on the character "House" and is true to his journey. Both the fans and this iconic character deserve
this.

HOUSE'S FINAL PUZZLE
I moved my head to look at the cabinet behind me. When I turned again, Sherlock Holmes was standing smiling at me across my study table. I rose to my feet, stared at him for some seconds in utter amazement, and then it appears that I must have fainted for the first and the last time in my life. Certainly a gray mist swirled before my eyes, and when it cleared I found my collar-ends undone and the tingling after-taste of brandy upon my lips. Holmes was bending over my chair, his flask in his hand.
With the last episode of this seasons "Sherlock"("The Reichenbach Falls") we were left thinking about House's endgame once more.
Over the years, House fans have speculated on how this series would end. As we are midpoint in Season 8, and are still without word regarding a House renewal for Season 9, the possibility of a House finale weighs heavily on us. Whether this year will be the finale of House, or there will be another season, the question remains:
- The Adventure of the Empty House -
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
As the very long House Hiatus comes to an end tonight, HouseDetectives have been thinking of what the future of our beloved antihero and show may be. House is back and we would like to share some thoughts we've had of late and hope YOU will add your voice to this discussion.
Thankfully, we were given the gift of the British second series of "Sherlock" to tide us over during the long wait for House to return. Over the hiatus, a fandom within a fandom was born with House fans all over the world discovering or re-discovering their love for this character, and becoming totally "Sherlocked" in the process.
Makes perfect sense really as we all know that House M.D.- the character, is based on Sherlock Holmes.
The similarities between Holmes and House were EVIDENT in nearly every frame of Sherlock. We found ourselves,(upon repeat viewings of "Sherlock") to be visually replacing Holmes/Watson with House/Wilson, which was remarkably easy to do.
How will House end?
Fans comments regarding House's death appeared early on in the series and have continued up until today. One always imagines the worst happening to people and things we love. When you add David Shore's frequent comments about House as a character, a death scenario has never been out of the equation. Frequent reminders from its creator as to House-the character's darkness and how this wasn't going to end with a happy House, mowing a lawn behind a white picket fence..are guiding comments to consider.
In watching "Sherlock" though, it became apparent that if DS & Co. were to continue to parallel House's journey with that of Holmes - The Finale is set forth and there for us to see and to apply to House.
In speculating about House's fate, House fans have a distinct advantage over Holmes fans of their day. WE KNOW how the original ends. The world's only consulting detective FAKES HIS OWN DEATH, only to re-appear at a later date.
Sherlock Holmes jumps off the hospital roof, 60ft up...or does he?
The story of why Conan Doyle decided to have Holmes die, is interesting. As time went on, Conan Doyle found himself more and more closely identified with Sherlock Holmes to the exclusion of his other works. "I weary of his name", he told his mother. We can only speculate as to whether David Shore (House's creator) has twinges of "weariness", coupled with feelings of great good luck and fortune as Doyle expressed.
Some fans see signs of such wearinesss in Season 8-House M.D., while others are delighted with the direction of the episodes.
In Doyle's mind, he had come to a solution regarding his involvement with the fictional Holmes. Holmes must die. Some of us have thought that David Shore had written House's ending many years ago. We are told by other writers that this would make sense and that no writer develops a character without mapping out or at least thinking about how the story will end and how the character's story will be resolved. This may differ from Holmes to House, but we are left pondering:
"Will House die"? and if so.."How"?
Conan Doyle wanted a dramatic finish for the great Sherlock Holmes. Hugh Laurie wants to "go out with a bang", a comment which received much attention after Season 7's finale. Some thought that the end of Season 6, "Help Me", should have been the end of the series, while others thought "After Hours" should have been the conclusion. And there are still others who think "Moving On" moved the story in a very negative direction.
We all know that House cast, writers and producers DESIRE a fitting conclusion to House's journey as Doyle did with Holmes. However, the fans of the original Sherlock Holmes stories did NOT find Doyle's conclusion to be satisfactory.
The Adventure of the Final Problem was published in December of 1893 in The Strand magazine. People were so upset that more than twenty thousand of them cancelled their subscription to The Strand magazine.
It took a story of a ghostly hound to inspire Conan Doyle to bring the great detective back. In 1901 Sherlock Holmes reappeared in "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Conan Doyle needed a strong central character for his ghostly novel. Why invent one when he already had that in Holmes? However Conan Doyle made it clear that Holmes was not alive. This story took place before the incident at Reichenbach Falls.
The public's response was phenomenal. The Hound of the Baskervilles was also first published in The Strand. The magazine's circulation rose by thirty thousand overnight.
Later, Holmes was truly brought back to life in The Adventure of the Empty House. At the start of the story Watson is alone. His wife is dead and he believes Holmes to be dead as well. However Watson learns that Holmes's death was a ruse to hide from Moriarty's associates.

The game is "ON" or "AFOOT"!
We Proffer One Possible Series Finale for House M.D.
House will fake his own death.
This should be interesting to observe. WHO is involved in the "cover-up" and the aftermath of such an act should make for "Compelling TV", as Wilson would say.
Wilson
Scenario I
Wilson will think that House is dead. As in "Sherlock" and Doyle's original,we have no doubt that it will seem a very realistic death. RSL, brilliant actor that he is, will surely break every, single heart when he learns of House's death and we will all need more tissues than they sell at Price Club. Time will pass. Maybe we will see visuals of "life continuing" with Wilson going to work, thinking about House and reminiscing over some "good times" and everyone "readjusting" to life without House.
One day though, House will re-appear,just as in the original. House knows where to finds his "one true friend" and lets him know that just as Holmes had to "disappear"..he did as well.
He will apologize to Wilson for the deception and for all the pain and they will walk and discuss this as they are shown walking away together.
Wilson
Scenario II
We see (as in "Sherlock") that House is indeed alive and is watching his friend. We may not understand now, WHY this deception was necessary but it could involve an unselfish act on the part of House for a reason or reasons unknown to us at the current time.
Wilson
Scenario III
Our Current Favorite Theory
Note: This is difficult to take.
Wilson does indeed die. House will be totally devastated by this (as will we all) and he feels there is nothing left in life he truly values any longer. If we couple this together with his possibly losing his license for some reason- we can see a man adrift. A man who might easily fake his own death to begin again.A man who knows he must stand on his two feet, face the world and TRY to find some peace and even a little happiness along the way.
Or
Wilson could help House plan his demise. We offer this as a possibility but don't think this is what will occur.
We have always felt that the last scene of House should focus on House/Wilson.
Whether this episode shows the true friends re-uniting,a House who "watches over" his friend or a man left alone to build a new life- we know that in the end- THIS was the central, defining relationship of the series.Wilson's "inspiring' death could teach House to live to the fullest for once.
Sherlock: "I have no friends. I only have ONE"
Why does anyone think about faking their own death? Because it's advantageous to the character to do so. Because it allows the character TOTAL FREEDOM..an ESCAPE...a second chance at life.
Why would House want to "re-invent" himself?
One reason we can think of is that he no longer desires the life he is leading. He could have lost his medical license and that would take the joy and meaning from his life. Perhaps, he, like Holmes, will fake his own death to PROTECT someone.
An overdose seems so obvious here that we the writers may go another route.
It might be easier for House to convince those around him that he might take his own life, as compared with Sherlock. In "Sherlock" the main character admits to John that he was a fraud. He wanted John to believe that everything he had told him was based on a lie. In true Holmesian fashion, John doesn't believe a word "Sherlock" said. He knows the inner man too well. Maybe House will place Wilson in a similar situation for reason(s) that might be revealed in the future.
If Wilson were alive after House's death...would he try to solve the mystery he may see surrounding House's death?
We'd love to hear from you and hope you will write, comment here and answer our polls on the right of the page.
Until next time
